Radon
Radon is a web platform for radon testing companies to manage the full operational lifecycle, including order booking, inspector scheduling, route planning, device tracking, report generation, invoicing, and client payments. It was built to modernize a legacy, manual workflow and support both the core business and a paid-subscriber model for other radon testing companies.
Problem / Context
The client performed high-volume radon inspections and needed a single system to manage operations reliably at scale. Key challenges included a multi-step field workflow (booking, drop-off, pick-up, reporting), strict compliance requirements such as Illinois state exports, calendar synchronization, real-time route planning, auditability through system logs, and integration with legacy radon monitors via RS232 adapters.
Solution / Impact
We built a full-stack operational platform that digitized the complete workflow end to end, replacing manual processes with a structured, auditable, and scalable system.
- Structured, step-based workflows for booking, drop-off, pick-up, and report generation with validation and timing constraints
- Scheduling engine with calendar-based views, task statuses, drag-and-drop assignment, and synchronization with Google and Outlook calendars
- Route planning and ETA notifications using Google Maps, including property geolocation and route optimization
- Payments, invoicing, and commission workflows with access control based on payment status
- Automated PDF report generation and export formats required for state compliance, including Illinois Excel exports
- System logs and traceability for notifications and data changes to support audits and operational accountability
- Enabled 18+ inspectors to process approximately 28% more reports per day
- Reduced order-to-report time from roughly 72 hours to around 50 hours
My Role and Responsibilities
- Co-built the platform with a team lead and another engineer, owning major parts across frontend and backend and delivering features end to end
- Developed core modules for order booking, scheduling, routing, reporting, and operational dashboards based on defined workflows and domain entities
- Integrated Google Maps for routing and geolocation, and implemented calendar integrations with Google Calendar and Outlook
- Implemented PDF report generation and critical export flows for regulatory compliance and internal reporting
- Authored and maintained API documentation using Swagger and added Jest tests for critical APIs
- Participated in code reviews and pair programming sessions to maintain code quality and delivery velocity
